BULKER: Maiden voyage to Leith

The new bulk carrier Crystalgate (16,950gt) made her maiden call at Leith on 15 November 2010. She is managed by Zodiac Maritime Agencies and owned by Apersal Shipping Ltd, part of the Ofer Brothers Group. The Group, through IsraelCorp, owns Zim Israel Navigation, and operates a fleet made up of more than 30 vessels.

Flagged in United Kingdom, Crystalgate was built by Shimanmi Shipbuilding’s Imabari yard at Ochi, Japan, and was completed in September 2010. On her first visit to Leith she brought in iron ore for the pipe-coating firm Bredero Shaw. Crystalgate measures at 169m by 27m and has a deadweight of 28,400. She is powered by a single 7,594bhp MAN-B&W diesel engine, giving a service speed of 14 knots.
