COSTA CRUISES: Upgrading undertaken by RCI

Royal Caribbean’s Radiance of the Seas (2001/90,090gt) is being given a multi-million pound overhaul in May prior to making her debut in Australasia in October as part of a fleetwide ‘Royal Advantage’ renewal programme.

This includes the creation of four new specialty restaurants and a new Diamond Lounge for Crown & Anchor Society loyalty programme members. Enhanced club facilities for children will be added, WiFi will be available throughout the ship and interactive flat- screen televisions will be installed in all staterooms to enable passengers to reserve shore excursions and order room service.

Four other ships in the 22-strong RCI fleet are also being refurbished as part of the programme. Splendour of the Seas (1996/69,130gt) will receive new balcony cabins, two new specialty restaurants, the Park Café, flat-panel televisions, and WiFi. Oasis of the Seas (2009/225,282gt) will gain new onboard programmes to bring her in line with her new sister Allure of the Seas. These include the DreamWorks Experience, 3-D movies and a Starbucks coffee shop in the Royal Promenade.
