SALVAGE: Large catch off France

Holland’s towage and salvage specialist Multraship successfully salvaged the fishing trawler Nieuwpoort 28 (N28) in early March after the vessel capsized off Dunkirk with the loss of three of her crew. Multraship mobilised its tug Multratug 18 and its recently upgraded floating sheerlegs Cormorant to successfully lift and transport the fishing boat to the port of Terneuzen, where it was redelivered to its owners. The 1973-built Cormorant (1,505gt) had just been fitted a new A-frame that upgraded its lifting capacity to 600 tons. An investigation into the cause of the accident, which took place 20 miles off the French/Belgian coast, is currently under way. An air and sea search failed to locate the missing crew members.
