When the steam clipper Royal Charter was smashed on the rocks off Anglesey in October 1859 on her return from Melbourne, 459 passengers and crew went down with her. The ship, laden with gold, was shipwrecked by a force 12 hurricane.

On 25 October underwater video footage will be shown at Chester Grosvenor Museum as part of a lecture marking the 152nd anniversary of the tragedy. Artefacts from the wreck will also be on view.
