More completed sections of the future HMS Queen Elizabeth have arrived in Rosyth from shipyards in Portsmouth and Birkenhead. BAE Systems delivered Lower Block 02, the second sizeable piece to be shipped to Scotland from the Hampshire yard in a month. The 6,000-tonne module arrived on 25 May to be floated off its specialised barge into the waters of the river Forth.
Before the module enters the assembly dock, workers will undertake a complex move to float out a 13,000-tonne section of hull already in the dock to allow Lower Block 02 to be moved into position before both sections are brought together.
Meanwhile, Cammell Laird delivered on the first phase of its £44 million project to build five flight deck and hangar modules, known as Centre Blocks 02. The sections, weighing more than 3,500-tonnes, left the Mersey by barge on 28 May for a five-day journey around the top of Scotland.
