PORT NEWS: Turbines on the Tyne

The wind turbine installation vessel MPI Adventure has been commissioned by Narec, the National Renewable Energy Centre, to collect a 750-tonne Met Mast fitted with the latest technologies for measuring wind resource and collecting marine conditions and marine life data. She was based three miles off Blyth to measure the wind resource for the proposed Blyth Offshore Wind Demonstration Site. MPI Adventure, said to be the world’s most advanced wind turbine installation vessel, used the Port of Tyne as her base for the duration of her contract off Blyth.

MPI Offshore is a leader in offshore wind turbine installation, operating the world’s largest and most powerful wind turbine installation vessels, MPI Adventure, MPI Discovery and MPI Resolution. Described as the ‘next generation’ of wind turbine installation vessel, MPI Adventure is 138.5m in length and designed to transport, lift and install wind turbines.
