NEW CRUISE SHIP: Titanic II plans move forward

Australian mining billionaire Clive Palmer has unveiled more details of the modern replica of the ill-fated ocean liner Titanic that he plans to have built in China by the CSC Jinling Shipyard. According to Palmer, who formed Blue Star Line in 2012 to operate the vessel, Titanic II will largely recreate the design and decor of her namesake but with changes, so that she keeps in line with current safety rules and shipbuilding practices.

However, just like the original ship, the three passenger classes aboard will be prevented from intermingling and First Class passengers may find 1912-style clothing in their rooms that they can dress up in so that they can pretend they are living in the earlier era.

The interior will have reproductions of the first-class dining and smoking rooms. Although construction is expected to begin this year, with the maiden transatlantic voyage for 2016, Palmer acknowledged that a contract for the job has not yet been signed. JS
