Carnival Corp: All change at the top

After a pretty bad year or so, at least in terms of events giving rise to negative publicity, Carnival Corporation’s Chief Executive Officer, Micky Arison, relinquished that position on 3 July, in a move that was said to have been a planned exit. Arison, who is now 63, will stay on as chairman, while Arnold Donald takes up the position of CEO. Micky Arison has been at the helm of Carnival Corporation from the days when it was just a small operator with three ships, and has grown the business to become what is now the largest operator of passenger ships, with 100 ships carrying around ten million passengers each year.

The largest company within the group, Carnival Cruise Lines, will position a second ship in Australia for the summer of 2014, when Carnival Legend joins her sister, Carnival Spirit. Other changes for 2014 include repositioning Carnival Pride from Baltimore to Tampa, Carnival Liberty from Miami to Port Canaveral and Carnival Dream from Port Canaveral to New Orleans, while Carnival Sunshine does the reverse.
