Ro-Ro Ships: Finnlines scrubs up

Helsinki-based Finnlines has ordered Wärtsilä scrubber systems for six of its ro-ro ships employed in the Baltic and North Seas to allow them to operate in compliance with new environmental regulations coming into force, while continuing to burn heavy fuel oil. A Wärtsilä open loop scrubber system will be installed on each vessel, with the twin main engines connected to a single integrated scrubber which will utilise seawater to remove SOx from the vessel’s exhaust. Wärtsilä will support Finnlines during the installation phase by providing technical advice and will provide retrofit services. JS
