Rothesay diversions for Cal Mac

Improvement work at the Clyde Estuary’s Wemyss Bay Harbour started on 1 October and will last around 24 weeks until late March, during which time a diverted vehicle and passenger service operates between Gourock and Rothesay.

Wemyss Bay currently has a 1970s concrete pier end, 1980s timber fendering and 1970s vehicle linkspan structure, which have all reached the stage where major refurbishment is required.

The new work includes the replacement of existing timber fenders, refurbishment of the linkspan, and reconstruction of the 1970s pier end, plus the installation of corrosion protection to the whole structure. Dredging will also take place to give greater flexibility for berthing vessels from other routes in bad weather.

During the work, Argyle (2007/ 2,643gt) and Bute (2005/2,612gt) will provide 56 sailings each week from Gourock to Rothesay, with introduction of new Road Equivalent Tariff fares for the service brought forward to coincide with the start of the diversion.
