Slippery superstructure for new feeder vessel

Japan’s Kyokuyo Shipyard, which introduced a hemispheric bow design to reduce wind resistance on the auto carriers City of Rotterdam and City of St Petersburg in 2011, has delivered the 540TEU 7,200dwt container ship Natori to Japan’s Imoto Lines with the same hemispheric configuration superstructure design forward to reduce wind resistance.

The small 136m by 21m feeder vessel is Imoto’s largest ship to date and will operate on a loop of around 30 Japanese ports, including Tokyo, Yokohama and Kobe, collecting and dropping off containers for larger carriers. JS
