Remembering P&O Ferries classic ferry Pride of York

Pride of York was built in 1987 as North Sea Ferries Norsea, at the Govan Shipyard on the Clyde. As such, she was the last large passenger ship to be built in the UK.

She has been Pride of York since she was taken over by P&O ferries in 2003, in order to conform to the P&O naming convention.

In 2011, her flag of registry was transferred from the Red Ensign to that of the Bahamas. She was taken off the Hull-Zeebrugge service in 2020, and is currently laid up in Rotterdam.

These photographs supplied by Talbot Clark show the ship on the Humber during her service with P&O. Our lead photo shows Pride of York heading up the Humber towards her berth in King George Dock, Hull on 6 June 2009.
