TANKERS: Trading imbalance

The new container feeder vessel Samskip Innovator (2011/7,852gt) has begun operating on the container service from Hull to Rotterdam, working opposite the 217TEU Geest Trader (1995/2,899gt) on a service operated by Samskip. However, while both had almost a full complement of containers when they recently moved on the same tide, Samskip Innovator sat much higher in the water than the older ship, suggesting her containers were mostly empty and explaining why UK import figures have exceeded export figures for many years.
