New weekly RoRo link between Poland and Sweden

At the end of May, Lakeway Link will launch a new ro-ro service specialising in high and heavy cargo between Poland and Sweden. The service between Gdynia and Södertälje, commencing on 21 May, will offer an alternative to traditional road and rail transportation.

Lakeway Link is the sole provider of scheduled roll-on/roll-off transport for trailers and high and heavy cargo on the Gdynia (Poland)-Södertälje (Sweden) route. The new service aims to alleviate the pressure on the congested road and rail infrastructure connecting mainland Europe to Scandinavia.

By offering a viable and eco-friendly alternative, Lakeway Link seeks to reduce both traffic congestion and environmental emissions associated with traditional overland transport.

To facilitate this service, Lakeway Link has secured the ro-ro vessel Lakeway Express sailing under the Swedish flag with Västerås, Sweden, as its home port. Lakeway Express has carrying capacity of 1,625 lane metres or approximately 108 trailers, allowing it to cater to various cargo needs, including trailers, project cargo, and mafi transport.

The vessel will operate between the OT Port Gdynia and the Port of Södertälje, with a transit time of approximately 22 hours. Following the completion of the Södertälje locks reconstruction project in 2026, the service is planned to expand to include Västerås, further enhancing access to the Mälaren region.
