On 10 July 2024, COSCO Shipping Special Transport celebrated the arrival of its first 7,500-vehicle LNG dual-fuel Pure Car and Truck Carrier (PCTC), Liaohekou, with a naming ceremony in Xiamen, Fujian.
This event marks a significant milestone, ushering in a new era of ‘large vessels’ and ‘new energy’ for Chinese automotive ocean transport.
Liaohekou can carry over 5,000 vehicles from brands such as Baic, Liugong Machinery and Chery to Europe, while sistership Minjiangkou will soon set sail for the Gulf with 4800 vehicles.
These new vessels, designed by the Shanghai Ship Design Institute (SDARI) and built by Fujian Shipbuilding Industry Group, feature state-of-the-art LNG dual-fuel engines and meet IMO TIER III emission standards.
They boast 13 vehicle decks with a total capacity of 7,500 CEU, providing substantial environmental benefits with reduced emissions.
