Atlantica Shipping expands its fleet

Atlantica Shipping, a Norwegian maritime company, has expanded its fleet by purchasing the 2012-built  3,600TEU container ship Chopin (38,364gt) from Borealis Maritime. The deal, valued at approximately US$24 million, includes an 18-month charter at $20,000 per day.

Recently, Atlantica re-entered the container shipping market, acquiring the 4,600TEU Northern Power, now renamed Atlantica Power. This vessel, built in 2010, is featured on Atlantica’s website and is on charter to CMA CGM until mid-2026.

In addition to these two container ships, Atlantica Shipping operates nine offshore vessels and two supramax bulk carriers.

Industry brokers predict a busy end to the year for the second-hand container ship market. They expect continued strong demand from both operators and tramp owners, coupled with limited liquidity, to keep prices high through the remainder of 2024.
