IMR VESSEL: Ship of the year

The recently completed Inspection, Maintenance and Repair (IMR) vessel Seven Viking (11,266gt), designed and built by Norway’s Ulstein for a joint venture owned by Subsea 7 and Eidesvik, was named Ship of the Year 2013 by the maritime magazine Skipsrevyen at the recent Nor-Shipping conference held in June.

Delivered by Ulstein Verft in January, and currently working in the North Sea under a five-year contract with Statoil, the ICE-C class vessel measures 106.5m by 24.5m and carries a crew of 90. A diesel electric propulsion system provides a top speed of 17 knots, and all winches on board are electrically powered to nullify the risk of hydraulic oil pollution. She is used to carry out inspection, maintenance and repair of subsea installations, scale treatment and ready for operations (RFO) work. JS
