NEWBUILD: New chemical tanker

The name of the first ship built by DSME (Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering) of South Korea has been revived after 30 years. The naming ceremony for the yard’s hull no.2018, which is the world’s biggest 75,000dwt chemical tanker and was ordered by Odfjell SE, took place on 29 April. Mrs Arnhild Odfjell, wife of Bernt Daniel Odfjell, the former chairman of Odfjell, named her Bow Pioneer, and she takes the name that was given to the first ship built by DSME, hull no.2001.

With the first Bow Pioneer (1982/ 14,627gt) reaching the end of her service life, the owner came back to DSME to order a replacement. The new vessel, at 44,500gt and 75,000dwt, is much larger than her predecessor. She will operate as part of Odfjell’s fleets, located in Norway, Singapore and Brazil, which consists of more than 90 tankers.
