Seaboard Marine gets latest LNG boxboat

Seaboard Marine, an American ocean carrier, has introduced its new LNG-powered V-Class containership, Seaboard Verde. The vessel, measuring 247.9m in length, can carry up to 3,500TEU and has over 1,000 refrigerated container plugs.

She will serve ports across the Americas, including Moin, Costa Rica; Colon, Panama; Kingston, Jamaica; Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic; Philadelphia; and Brooklyn. Delivery from Taizhou Sanfu Shipbuilding in China is scheduled for March this year, as per VesselsValue.

Seaboard Verde is the third of eight LNG-powered newbuilds joining Seaboard Marine’s fleet in 2025. Her sisterships, Seaboard Voyager and Seaboard Victory, were delivered in August and November 2024, respectively. These LNG-powered containerships aim to reduce emissions, enhance operational efficiency, and reinforce Seaboard Marine’s commitment to greener shipping.

In addition to these newbuilds, Seaboard Marine acquired Seaboard Blue in 2023, which was retrofitted to operate on both LNG and diesel.

This marked the world’s first conversion of a containership from conventional diesel propulsion to LNG. Including this retrofitted vessel, Seaboard Marine’s fleet is expected to feature nine LNG-powered ships by the end of 2025.
