The 2004-built cargo vessel H&S Wisdom, a Dutch-flagged ship, ran aground in the Humber Estuary on 2 March 2025, while she was en route to Gunness Wharf Port near Scunthorpe.
The ship, which departed Rotterdam, became stuck on a sandbank near the northern bank of the Humber, just outside Brough.
Efforts to refloat the Netherlands-flagged vessel have been challenging, with three failed rescue attempts due to falling tides.
The next attempt is expected around the end of March or early April, when higher spring tides may provide better conditions.
The ship, measuring 82m in length and carrying steel cargo, has a crew of six onboard. Despite the situation, the crew remains in good spirits and has been receiving food, water, and even sweets from concerned locals.
The Humber Estuary is known for its unpredictable and shifting sandbanks, which likely contributed to the grounding.
Authorities are considering alternative methods, such as offloading the cargo onto barges, to free the vessel if tides do not suffice.
Gunness Wharf Port is operated by RMS Trent Ports. It handles mainly bulk and steel-based imports and exports, accommodating vessels that are up to 328ft (100m) long.
