On 16 May 2025 Hurtigruten’s Otto Sverdrop will revert to her former name, Finnmarken. Part car ferry/cargo ship and cruise ship, Finnmarken operates an 11-day round-trip calling at 34 ports. She has 279 cabins (including 23 suites) and a maximum guest capacity of 526.
She operates along the Norwegian coast, where many foot passengers use the service as a ferry from port to port rather than drive hundreds of miles around the tapering fjords.
Under her old name, the ship will continue operating the North Cape Line, sailing between Hamburg and Honningsvåg. Germany is one of Hurtigruten’s key markets, and the departure from Hamburg has become an important part of the company’s offer. The journey ends in Finnmark.
The first Finmarken was built in 1912 and ended her service with Hurtigruten in 1956 when the new ship with the same name was built. This second ship was given to the Hurtigruten museum in 1996 and can be seen at the museum in Stokmarknes, a port of call on the summer Svalbard Line sailing.
