A ship which has probably fallen off most people’s radar is Amet Majesty (1975/16,546gt), which has had many different uses during her fairly long career. Recently sold for scrap in India, she was built in France as Bore Star for Bore Line’s ferry service between Sweden and Finland.
She later passed to EFFOA and became Silja Star, continuing service on the same routes. In 1986 she was sold to Sealink (UK) Ltd and, after a major refit at Bremerhaven, emerged as Orient Express, a combined car ferry and cruise ship for operation in the Mediterranean. During the winters she was chartered to Europe Cruise Line as Eurosun and operated on Canary Islands cruises.
In 1991 she was sold to Singapore interests, becoming Orient Sun, but was soon chartered to Wasa Line, returning to her roots as the Baltic ferry Wasa Queen. Ten years later she was purchased by Star Cruises, who operated her initially between Hong Kong and Xiamen in China. Later she became a pure gambling cruise ship. In 2011 she was sold to Amet Shipping to become Amet Majesty. Following a period of inactivity, she has now made the short journey to the breakers.
