Japan’s Imabari Shipbuilding successfully delivered Maersk Namsos, a 2,086 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) containership, on 4 June 2025.
This Panama-flagged vessel has a gross tonnage of 25,723 and dimensions of 171.9m in length, 32.2m in width, and 16.8m in depth. It is classed by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and boasts a service speed of approximately 18 knots.
Designed for flexibility in port operations, Maersk Namsos comes equipped with three deck cranes, allowing it to handle cargo even at ports lacking shore-based equipment. The vessel can accommodate a large number of refrigerated containers on both the deck and in the hold.
In addition, it is built to carry dangerous goods in accordance with the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code.
A standout feature of the ship is its double-tiered bridge design, which supports higher container stacking and enhanced visibility.
Environmentally, Maersk Namsos aligns with the latest energy efficiency design index (EEDI) standards. It features an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system on its main engine and a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system for its generator, both installed to meet the stringent IMO Tier III emission requirements.
