MSC: Unrest affects cruising

Following the renewed unrest in Egypt, MSC has decided to withdraw from the Red Sea market for the forthcoming winter and instead base MSC Armonia in the Canary Islands. That decision will be disappointing for Egyptian tourism, as the Red Sea region is not on the list of places to avoid issued by the US State Department and the UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Aida Cruises has also cancelled at least nine calls by AIDAdiva at Port Said and replaced them with visits to Ashdod.

Princess has cancelled the Alexandria calls of Pacific Princess and Dawn Princess, while the latter ship will also avoid Safaga and Sharm El Sheikh. Seabourn Legend and Seabourn Odyssey have also had calls at those ports substituted by visits to Mediterranean ports. Thomson Celebration has also been diverted.
