BALTIC SEA: Stena boost capacity

The Stena Line Baltic route between Karlskrona, Sweden and the Polish port of Gdynia received a 20 per cent capacity boost with the introduction of British-flagged 350-passenger/1,950-lane-metre Stena Alegra.

Jacob Koch Nielsen, Stena’s freight commercial manager for Scandinavia, says the charter of Stena Alegra, completed by AESA, Spain in 1998 as Dawn Merchant, lead ship of four delivered to Cenargo International, is an indication of strong route growth which not only reflects economic development in Poland but also in Romania, Bulgaria,Hungary and neighbouring Eastern European countries.

There was a seven per cent increase in Karlskrona-Gdynia traffic during 2012, and until the end of May this year carryings were 15 per cent higher than the corresponding period of 2012.
