GOSPORT-PORTSMOUTH: Pontoon for Gosport funded

The way is finally clear for the ferry pontoon at Gosport to be replaced by a new construction in 2011. Gosport Borough Council have made a loan to Gosport Ferry Ltd to cover construction and installation costs, with repayment over a period of years.

Passenger ferries maintaining the service across Portsmouth Harbour to Portsea currently carry nearly four million passengers a year and save a 16-mile road journey. Return tickets went up by ten pence last June, the first increase for two years, but the price of standard return tickets for cycles and motorcycles remained unchanged.

Ferries operate from 0530 to midnight, with departures every seven and a half minutes in each direction at peak times. Once again a full programme of Solent excursions was provided throughout the summer.
