Holland America: Second in a year

For the second time in 12 months, Holland America Line’s ships have come to the rescue of the sightseeing vessel Baranof Wind, operated by Glacier Bay Lodge and Tours on eight-hour cruises in Glacier Bay, Alaska.

On the most recent occasion, on 2 August, Baranof Wind experienced mechanical problems while in the ice near John Hopkins Glacier, and Holland America Line’s Statendam evacuated 103 passengers from the disabled vessel and returned them to their start point at Bartlett Cove, before continuing her voyage to Seward.

On 20 August 2012 Volendam rescued 70 passengers from Baranof Wind after the vessel struck rocks and started taking on water.
