The Colombo Dockyard in Sri Lanka in continuing to gain international contracts for new construction, the latest being three hybrid 5,000dwt mini-bulkers to be built for Norway’s Misje Eco Bulk, part of Bergen-based Misje Rederi Group.
Each of the 90m-long ships will employ a Wärtsilä 20 main engine and power transmission system coupled to a controllable pitch propeller while an energy management system will be used to optimize energy flow between diesels and batteries.
Designed by Wartsila Ship Design Norway in collaboration with Colombo Dockyard, the vessels will be configured to carry various types of dry bulks as well as packaged timber, unitized cargo and containers.
The first ship is to be delivered by mid-2022, with subsequent vessels following at four month intervals. The contract contains options for three additional bulk carriers of the same size.
