Day of the Seafarer

At noon on 25 June 2021 all Stena Line vessels sounded their horns in port to support of seafarers around the world.

More than 1.6 million men and women are keyworkers in keeping vital supply lines open during the global pandemic COVID-19.

The International Chamber of Shipping (ICS), along with industry associations, companies and social partners are calling on shipowners, masters and crews around the world to sound their horns in ports on the 25th of June at 1200 noon local time.

The initiative called #ShoutOutForSeafarers is made in honour of the International Maritime Organization’s international ‘Day of the Seafarer’ to remind the world about the important role of all, more than 1.6 million seafarers around the world.

Stena Line is one of the largest ferry companies with more than 4.300 employees, currently operating 37 vessels on 17 ferry routes in the Baltic Sea, Scandinavica, North Sea and the Irish Sea.

Abu Dhabi Ports, part of ADQ with major enterprises spanning key sectors of Abu Dhabi’s diversified economy, also celebrated ‘Day of the Seafarer’.

Throughout its diverse range of clusters, Abu Dhabi Ports has prioritised the wellbeing of seafarers, recognising the importance of providing safe facilities and a full range of wellbeing services.

In addition to distributing special gifts to seafarers as a token of appreciation, the company joined several of the world’s leading ports in having ships within their harbours sound their horns in a gesture of solidarity, reviving the “Horns of Hope” initiative unveiled by Abu Dhabi Ports in 2020.
