NEW LIFEBOAT: State-of-the-art lifesaver

The first of the RNLI’s new 13m Shannon class all-weather lifeboats arrived at the Dungeness lifeboat station on 21 February and was welcomed by hundreds of supporters, RNLI crew and members of the public. The new 25-knot waterjet-powered lifeboat, named The Morrell, was put through her paces off the shingle beach, with the lifeboat she is to replace, Pride and Spirit.

The Dungeness Coxswain and crew, under the supervision of RNLI staff, brought the new lifeboat from RNLI HQ in Poole via Cowes and Eastbourne to its new home, where the new Supacat Launch and Recovery system was waiting to bring the boat ashore. NL
