Hurtigruten Expeditions’ cruise ship Fridtjof Nansen calls at Cuxhaven

Cruising returned to its birthplace in Germany’s popular seaside resort Cuxhaven. Cuxhaven, the most popular seaside resort in Germany, celebrated a successful start to 2022 with the maiden call of Fridtjof Nansen in early January.

The battery hybrid ship operated by Hurtigruten Expeditions was welcomed as she made her maiden call at Cuxhaven’s cruise terminal.

Fridtjof Nansen is the newest member of the Hurtigruten Expeditions fleet and will be calling at Cuxhaven as part of two-week cruises from Hamburg along the Norwegian coastline towards the North Cape.

Hurtigruten called in Cuxhaven for the first time in October 2021, when their expedition ship Otto Sverdrup was welcomed on her maiden call.

The cruise industry has now returned to its Cuxhaven birthplace, where Albert Ballin started the first luxury cruise ever in January 1891.

The historical buildings of the Hapag-Hallen have been fully restored to their former grandeur, when they served as terminal for transatlantic travel dating from 1902.

Cuxhaven is a well-connected port at the mouth of the river Elbe. In 2022 around 30 cruise calls are expected by Hurtigruten Expeditions.

The Steubenhoeft pier is able to handle calls of much bigger cruise ships with a lengths of 400m. Further piers in Cuxhaven are also available, like the Seebaederbruecke, where the Hurtigruten ships are docking.
