New Irish Research Vessel to be ready for the summer

Ireland’s latest state-of-the-art marine research vessel, the 52.8m by 14m Tom Crean, is expected to be delivered this summer from Spain’s Astilleros Armon shipyard following the launch of the hull at Vigo during this past winter.

Designed by Norwegian design group Skipsteknisk AS, the DP1-rated ship is to be based in Galway and used by Ireland’s Marine Institute and other state agencies and universities to undertake multidisciplinary surveys, as well as deploy and maintain observational buoys. JS
