Container ship brought into San Francisco

On 8 April 2022 the US Coast Guard undertook an operation to assist the 2016-built container ship Wan Hai 176, which had lost engine power after departing the San Francisco Bay and was adrift outside of Point Reyes.

The ship was 12 miles off the California coastline when she broke down and went adrift, and with rough weather hampering efforts to rescue the ship, she was finally able to anchor seven miles off the coast of Point Reyes, a headland 30 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge.

With the assistance of tugs from Foss, Bay Delta and AmNav, the ship was brought back to the bay on 10 April, and departed again without incident on 14 April.
