Supply Vessels: US-built for Brazil

The high cost of shipbuilding in the United States means few export orders, but the expertise of several Gulf Coast yards in the offshore sector is seeing a number of offshore supply vessels (OSVs) completed for foreign owners. Some of the latest are a series of 284ft by 60ft OSVs built for Boldini SA of Brazil by Florida’s Eastern Shipbuilding Group. All of the vessels are AC diesel-electric powered using four Cummins 16-cylinder turbo-charged diesels, each rated at 1,825kW at 1,800rpm. JS
