Viking Line ends the year with confidence in the future

2022, like the previous year, continued to be exceptional for the whole world, as well as for Viking Line. Due to the pandemic, the operating environment was initially very unfavourable, with corresponding economic consequences.

From the end of February, the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine contributed to sky-high fuel prices and market uncertainty. At the same time, there was a renewed demand to travel, especially locally.

In October Amorella was sold and in December an agreement was reached to sell Rosella. In March, the new climate-smart vessel, Viking Glory, entered service. The ship has been very popular and will reach the a million passenger milestone after less than a year in traffic.

In total, nearly five million passengers travelled on Viking Line’s vessels in 2022, an increase of 114 percent from the previous year.

The number of passengers travelling with the Viking Line in 2022 was 4,945,564 (2,315,137), which represents an increase of 114 %, compared to the previous year.

The largest increase was on the Turku-Åland-Stockholm route with 1,955,988 (904,321) passengers (+116.3 %). Viking Line’s market share was 64 per cent.

On the Helsinki-Åland-Stockholm route, only Gabriella operated during the year and had 515,445 passengers. During the summer, the ship undertook several special cruises.

Viking Cinderella, in cruise traffic between Stockholm and Mariehamn, carried 517,354 (256,344) passengers and also did special cruises to several destinations in Sweden during the year.

The number of passengers between Mariehamn and Kapellskär on Rosella was 464,375 (348,209). Between the capital cities of Helsinki and Tallinn, Viking XPRS had 1,266,642 (586,354) passengers.

The number of freight units was 117,777 and the number of passenger cars was 630,651.
