New US-built crude carrier

ExxonMobil’s US-flag shipping subsidiary, SeaRiver Maritime, has taken delivery of the second of two crude carriers it ordered from the Aker Philadelphia Shipyard in Pennsylvania. Like her sister ship Liberty Bay, the new Eagle Bay has a capacity of 800,000 barrels of crude and is powered by a six-cylinder MAN B&W 6S60MC-C8.2 Tier 2 diesel delivering 15 knots.

Each of the big tankers, the largest ships to have been built by the Aker yard to date, measures 251.1m by 48.3m and can accommodate a crew of 28. They will carry crude oil from the Alaska pipeline terminal near Valdez, Alaska to refineries located on the USWest Coast. JS
