Queen Mary restoration plans

Ambitious plans to return former turbine steamer Queen Mary to the Clyde have been announced by the 1933-built vessel’s owner, Ranjan Chowdhury, a 45 year-old London businessman who talks of opening the vessel in Glasgow as an educational resource with a long-term objective of a return to passenger operations.

Currently laid up at Tilbury, Queen Mary was withdrawn by Caledonian MacBrayne in 1977 and ten years passed before she became a floating restaurant on the Thames at Victoria Embankment. It is suggested £10 million will be needed for a tow to Glasgow and refit.
