New IOM ferry Manxman on her way to the UK

The new Isle of Man Steam Packet ferry Manxman left South Korea and headed for the Isle of Man on 11 May after ownership was officially transferred to he Steam Packet.

Manxman then began the 18,000-mile trip, which will involve six port calls along the way before arriving in the UK for a final installation of equipment and artwork commissioned by Island-based artists.

Manxman’s first port of call after leaving Ulsan was Singapore with further stops at Colombo, Sri Lanka and Muscat, the capital of Oman.

The Steam Packet Company say a further stop may be made at Saudi Arabia as the vessel makes its way up the Red Sea towards the Suez Canal.

Speaking ahead of the voyage Captain Atkinson said “We’ve been working on the ground in South Korea since almost the first block of the vessel started taking form.

“The team has seen this monumental project literally take shape, and we’ve been intimately involved in making sure this is the ship that the Company commissioned, right down to the tiniest details.”

The journey is expected to take 30 days.
