Croatian ferry Tijat ends her days after 68 years

Jadrolinija’s legendary ferry Tijat has been retired after an impressive 68 years of service. Tijat holds legendary status in Croatia. Built in 1955 at the Split shipyard, she was one of the oldest ferries that has navigated the Adriatic coast.

Named after an uninhabited island located southwest of Vodice and west of Prvić, the ship has been an integral part of the Šibenik-Zlarin-Prvić Luka-Šepurine-Vodice route for over six decades.

On 8 July 2023 Tijat docked at the Zlarin pier for the last time, and it was an emotional occasion from those present.

“It feels as if someone has passed away, I don’t have any other words,” Vesna Jukić from Zlarin told Dnevnik.hr.

The islanders describe Tijat as a ship with a soul. There is not a resident of the Šibenik archipelago who doesn’t have some deeper connection with the vessel.

With a capacity to accommodate 300 passengers, Tijat will be renowned for never encountering any major technical issues throughout its long and illustrious service.
