New ship for the South Seas

China’s Huanghai Shipbuilding is close to delivering the passenger/cargo vessel Aranui 5 to Tahiti-based Compagnie Polynesienne de Transport Maritime (CPTM) for operation among the Marquesas, Tuamotu and Society Islands in the South Pacific.

Measuring 126m (413ft) by 22m (72ft) the 3,200dwt combination ship features a mixed accommodation plan featuring 32 suites, 31 superior deluxe cabins and 40 staterooms for tourist travel and five dormitories plus deck space for inter-island passengers.

In addition, the 7,500gt vessel carries two rotating deck cranes forward and slots for up to 80 containers. Passenger fares will range from $2,781 in dormitory space to $8,564 in the most luxurious suite for a 14-day trip among the islands. JS
