Amsterdam bans cruise ship callers

A motion by D66 Amsterdam to ban cruise ships from the city centre has been adopted by a large majority in the city council, the party said. The cruise terminal near the Amsterdam Central train station has to move.

The plan to move the cruise terminal is not new. In 2016 Kajsa Ollongren, alderman in the city at the time, also said that it should move to a place outside the city center. This just hasn’t happened yet/

“The polluting cruise does not match the sustainable ambitions of our city,” says D66 party leader Ilana Rooderkerk. It’s time for action, she says, “because the climate won’t wait”. ”

Cruise ships in the city centre do not fit in with Amsterdam’s assignment to reduce the number of tourists.” D66 forms a coalition in Amsterdam together with PvdA and GroenLinks.
