Canadian Coast Guard awards contracts

Chantier Davie Canada at Lévis, Quebec has won a C$16 million Vessel Life Extension (VLE) contract covering the 28-year-old Canadian Coast Guard icebreaker CCGS Henry Larsen.

This is the fourth Canadian Coast Guard contract awarded Davie through a competitive bidding process in less than a year, with the yard winning a C$13.6 million bid to extend the life of the 1986-built CCGS Earl Grey in March of this year.

Prior to that award the east coast facility had won a C$6.5 million refit contract covering the 46-year-old CCGS Louis S. St-Laurent in April 2014 and a C$4.5 million Vessel Life Extension contract on the 1982-built CCGS Des Groseilliers in October 2014.

The Larsen VLE contract will be partly funded under the Canadian National Shipbuilding Procurement Strategy plus a C$183 million Federal Infrastructure Initiative announced last November. JS
