Hapag-Lloyd’s new ULCV Manila Express christened

Hapag-Lloyd’s new LNG-fuelled 23,600 TEU ultra large container vessel (ULCV) Manila Express was christened 3 August 2023.

Built by Hanwha Ocean, the 400m Manila Express will be sailing in Hapag-Lloyd’s FE3 service that starts in Ningbo.

From there, the vessel will sail to Xiamen, Kaohsiung, Yantian, Singapore and Rotterdam before arriving in Hamburg in mid-September.

From Hamburg, it will sail to Antwerp, Southampton, Algeciras, Singapore, Yantian and Hong Kong.

Manila Express is one of a series of LNG-fuelled ULCVs joining the Hapag-Lloyd fleet, with the last vessel scheduled to be delivered by the end of 2024.

Sistership Berlin Express was bunkered with 6,000cbm of LNG in China in July. The ULCV was making its maiden voyage, having been launched in June.
