The latest cruise ships have been doing their part to save energy through the adoption of energy alternatives, and cruise terminals are now following their example. In the past year the Port of Los Angeles completed a US$10.8 million project that saw 1,160,000ft2 of rooftop solar panels mounted on the roof of its World Cruise Center.
The total display is comprised of 5,140, 210-watt solar modules, capable of generating 1.2 million kilowatt hours of electricity annually. This is expected to make an annual $200,000 saving and is part of a solar power programme at the southern California gateway.
