A year of service for Britannia

On 10 March 2016 the cruise ship Britannia marked her first full year in the P&O Cruises fleet. A year ago she was welcomed to Southampton with an air stunt from The Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment The Tigers Parachute Display Team and was named by HM The Queen.

During this time, Britannia has played host to more than 116,900 guests, undertaken over 43 cruises and sailed more than 90,000 nautical miles, travelling to 31 countries and visiting 61 different ports.

The dining team have served 28,793 meals in Atul Kochhar’s Sindhu, 23,874 meals in The Limelight Club, and 41,790 dishes in The Glass House. Housekeeping have processed 166,295 pieces of luggage and handed out 14,130 pairs of slippers. Guests have consumed 292,000 scones, 2.8m cups of tea, 375,000 gin and tonics and 13,188 bottle of champagne.

On Britannia’s birthday the ship Was docked in Grenada, nearing the end of a 14-night Caribbean cruise which departed on 27 February 2016. There were various onboard activities celebrating a year’s service including a birthday cake on display, which will be cut by the captain. 

P&O Cruises vice president of marketing Christopher Edgington said: “A year ago we welcomed Britannia into our fleet with a sparkling naming ceremony. Since then the ship has had a very successful year, receiving excellent feedback from guests and winning four best new ship industry awards”
