Ionic expanding fleet

Ionic Shipping of Greece took delivery of its 11th vessel, the 60,425dwt bulker Ionic United, from Japan’s Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding (MES) during January.

The 199.9m by 32.2m bulk carrier is a slightly larger sister to the 56,025dwt Ionic Smyrni, which was completed by Mitsui three years ago.

Ionic now has four sizes of vessels within its growing fleet, including three Handysize of about 34,000dwt, three Supramax of about 56,000dwt, one Ultramax of about 60,000dwt and four Kamsarmax of about 82,000dwt.

The company was founded in early 2013 and has all of its vessels deployed on fixed-term charters to such companies as Louis Dreyfus, Cargill, Bunge and Vitol. JS
