Dutch shipbuilder Royal IHC has been contracted by compatriot operator Boskalis to build a new trailing suction hopper dredger with a hopper capacity of 31,000 cubic metreswhich will make it one of the largest vessels of its type in the Boskalis fleet when delivered in mid-2026.
The new ship will employ a diesel-electric power system featuring dual-fuel main engines equipped with two-stage turbos that will be capable of running on conventional fuels and sustainable alternatives, such as green methanol, to reduce CO2 emissions.
Dredging equipment will consist of a double suction pipe fitted with underwater pumps and two discharge pumps with a combined discharge power capacity of 15,000 kW.
