PULLMANTUR: Future of Atlantic Star

Spain’s Pullmantur Cruises is believed to have been sold the 1,550-passenger Atlantic Star (1984/46,087) to Greek-based Kyma Ship Management. She has been laid up in Marseille since August 2009, but returned to service briefly during September and October last October, having suffered numerous problems with her steam turbines throughout her career.

Kyma wants to have her engines replaced with unused Wärtsilä diesels originally earmarked for the failed project to rebuild the hull of the ferry Stena Baltica into the cruise ship Regent Sky, which is now currently named Zoe. German operator Lord Nelson Seereisen had planned to charter Atlantic Star as Mona Lisa II during summer 2012 but pulled out of the contract citing the high costs of converting the vessel.
