HOVERCRAFT: Hovering around

The annual Hovershow is to be held during the last weekend in May, at the Hovercraft Museum’s Daedalus site at Lee-on-Solent in Hampshire, which houses the world’s largest collection of historic and current hovercraft. The 50 commercial, military and private hovercraft to be displayed include the former Seaspeed (later Hoverspeed) SR.N4 Mk.III Dover-Boulogne/Calais car ferries The Princess Anne and The Princess Margaret.

The Princess Anne holds the record for the fastest Channel crossing of 22 minutes on 14 September 1995, but both craft were withdrawn in October 2000 and arrived at the museum two months later. Hovertravel, which operates the hovercraft between Southsea and Ryde, provided their AP-188 Freedom 90 for a connection from Ryde to Lee-on-Solent.
