A&P Falmouth undertook a contract to make two 100-tonne blade racks to hold turbine blades on two ships used for windfarm working. The ships, Seajacks Leviathan and Seajacks Kraken, are to be used to install and maintain the Walney 2 wind farm off Cumbria.
The vessels, which were purpose-built in 2009, arrived in Falmouth in April for the work, which will provide 100 jobs at the yard. Once completed, the vessels will go to the windfarm site, where four legs on the ships are lowered to the seabed and the vessel jacked out of the water to make a platform for installing the turbines.
